17 - Nani Profile

After months of rumours Manchester United agreed a deal with Sporting to sign Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, aka Nani, and add another talented Portuguese winger to their squad.

With Cristiano Ronaldo a key player in their 2007 Premiership win Sir Alex Ferguson perhaps thought that you couldn't get too much of a good thing. Certainly, the comparisons with Ronaldo will dominate the early part of his career at Old Trafford. Like Ronaldo Nani was brought up on an island belonging to Portugal (Cape Verde in Nani's case. Madeira in Ronaldo's) and like Ronaldo he impressed at Sporting before Manchester United came in with a big money deal.

In his first season living up to the standards set by his colleague may prove difficult for the new signing, but Sir Alex is used to dealing with young players and introducing them to the rigours of the Premiership. At just 20 Nani can expect a few Premiership veterans to try and kick him out of the game, but Manchester United will be hoping that he can weather that and settle in the English game.
