United hope for Giggs boost

Sir Alex Ferguson is optimistic Ryan Giggs will be fit to return for Manchester United's trip to Chelsea on Tuesday.

Giggs has sat out United's last two games against Marseille and Wigan Athletic due to a hamstring injury and was in the stands at the DW Stadium for Saturday's 4-0 win.

The veteran Welshman is expected to train on Sunday in an attempt to put himself in contention for the midweek game at Stamford Bridge.

Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans are among those set to miss the Chelsea clash, but Ferguson feels he may have more players back for next weekend's game at arch-rivals Liverpool.

"Hopefully Ryan will train on Sunday," Ferguson told MUTV after the Wigan win. "He's coming on.

"We might have a couple back for next week as well."

United will head to Chelsea with a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League, but having failed to win at the reigning champions' home since 2002.

Ferguson added: "It's always a big game at Chelsea. We used to have a great record down there, but our record over the last seven years or so has been poor.

"We have to do something about that and that's what Tuesday is about."
