Giggs wants title back

Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs is determined to take the Premier League title back off Chelsea this season.

The 36-year-old midfielder is preparing for yet another top-flight campaign with the Red Devils, having started his United first-team career in the 1990/91 season.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men were pipped to the post by Carlo Ancelotti's team last term, and Giggs is hungry for another piece of silverware.

"It was disappointing last year to lose out to Chelsea by one point, but we're looking forward to this season," he told Sky Sports.

"We want to try and win it back, we know it's going to be difficult, there's a lot of good teams about, a lot of good players, but we'll be up there in the mix and hopefully we can end the season with a title."

On who he thinks will be United's biggest rivals, Giggs cited the usual names and believes the force from the other half of Manchester could prove powerful if City gel quickly.

The Blues have added a number of players to their squad this summer, and Giggs thinks the Eastlands outfit are one of many strong sides in the top-flight.

He added: "It's a similar scenario to last year really. They've brought in so many quality players, it's just whether they can gel, how quick they gel - if they do gel quickly obviously they'll be up there.

"But there's City, Tottenham did well last year, and then Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and ourselves."

Wayne Rooney has been the subject of much attention following his poor World Cup with England, and it remains to be seen if he can shrug off his international form when he pulls on a Red Devils jersey.

Giggs is confident the star striker will prove his worth once more at Old Trafford, and is not concerned about Rooney's summer performance.

"Wayne was by far the best player in the Premiership last year," he said. "He's won all his awards, scored so many goals for us and he's a massive player for us.

"He's our main goal threat and these players that we've brought in and the other midfielders and wingers need to try and score more goals and help him a little bit more so the massive weight isn't always on Wayne's shoulders.

"But last year he was brilliant and I'm sure he'll be brilliant again this season."

On new forward Javier Hernandez, Giggs remarked: "I think he's scored five or six goals in the last four or five games.

"He is a goalscorer but he's an exciting player as well, his movement's good and he's quick."
