Brown relishing new campaign

Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes the squad must produce the goods this coming season after a largely disappointing campaign last term.

The club lost the Premier League title to Chelsea and were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals by Bayern Munich with Sir Alex Ferguson's men only picking up the Carling Cup.

The 30-year-old defender was disappointed at the way last season panned out but he now seems determined to make sure the club succeed where they failed last term.

He said: "We were close last season but it was never really in our hands. We've got to make sure it is this season.

"Like we say every year, the Premier League and the Champions League are the ones we really want to win, so we've got to come back better and stronger this season."

Sir Alex Ferguson has signed talented youngsters Chris Smalling from Fulham and Javier Hernandez from Chivas de Guadalajara during and Brown is looking forward to seeing the new recruits in action.

He said: "You do think about your disappointments, especially when the season finished.

"But now it's completely new and we've got to put that behind us.

"We've got some new players and we can start again."
