Fergie - Evra's sensational

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Patrice Evra's form as 'sensational' and believes no-one has matched the Manchester United full-back's consistency.

Evra has been the one constant in United's unsettled defence this season and he has appeared in all 36 of the club's Premier League games to date.

The France international, who was forced off in Saturday's win over Tottenham Hotspur due to illness, was also recognised by his peers after being named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Ferguson has been delighted with the former Monaco defender's performances this season, particularly given the disruption to United's back-line.

"The form of Evra has been sensational all season," said Ferguson. "He is the one player who has not missed any games.

"We rested him at Blackburn, but he still came on as sub, because I think he needed the break then.

"He came back tremendously last week. If you look at the rest of the back four, they have all had scattered appearances.

"There's no-one who has been near Evra's consistency - no-one!

"We have done remarkably well to be in the picture despite the handicaps of the back four players being injured."

Have your say on Fergie - Evra's sensational in the United Online forum

[b:67hfdo9q]When you pull on the shirt you pull on history. When you play a good game you dont play again, you have to play an amazing game and that is what I tell all the young players at Utd.[/b:67hfdo9q] He is in my humble opinion certainly among the top 5 signings Fergie has made in his reign at Utd.

I've said it before and I'll no doubt say it again many many times. He's a Salford red with a French accent. Some players get it, they understand your not playing for the image rights or the glory, your playing for a badge that means more than the sum of its parts.

Got to agree Dave from early in his time with us he has just seemed to get it. Class player and class bloke.

Class comments from a class player. When we signed him I wasn't quite sure what role he'd play at the club as we had Heinze and Silvestre as back up at the time but he's been a fantastic signing and the only player that I'd be able to compare him with since I've been supporting United is Dennis Irwin (which is high praise indeed).
