Fergie hopeful over Dong

Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo will get the chance to kick-start his Manchester United career in December, as manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the 21-year-old will qualify for a European passport at the turn of the year.

Dong joined The Red Devils in January of 2004, but has played only pre-season friendlies for the club as he does not qualify for a UK work permit.

The striker has worked on his game at Belgian side Royal Antwerp and he has made a positive impression on Ferguson this summer.

Dong scored the winner during United's friendly win over Kaizer Chiefs and he could well get the chance to fight for a place in the side at the turn of the year.

"Dong qualifies for his European passport in December and that is good news for us," said Ferguson.

"He has played four times for China already, so clearly he has a lot of potential.

"He has the speed and physicality and his technique is improving all the time.

"He has improved a lot but we expect that and he has to continue it if he wants to be a player."
