Due to injury and lack of focus.

Great player in his time, one of the best defenders in the world. I'll never forget his tussle with Zamarano in 1999.

Or not batting an eyelid as he had stiches put in for Holland. What a legend.

So who's harder- Vidic or Stam?!

I'd have to say he'd get the hard award over Vidic. Officially a meathead.

'Jip Jaap Stam is a big dutch man'

Legend.

neither of them are as hard as Kevin Moran was. He was a mentalist too.

I prefer Stam! I think.. to have Rio along side Vidic, gave our defence a lot of strength. but Stam was a Wall on his own!! :o

But Vidic is a good defender too, without a doubt!!

I agree, i remeber the look on Alan Shearer's face, he was as physical as they come but whenever he came up against the Jaap man, he just looked out of ideas!

I think Vidic could become as good, but Stam was awesome. He had pace, was good in the air, his positioning was top draw.

People go on about the likes of John Terry and his positioning, but Stam was just different class.

Vidic without a doubt.

He's the only prem footballer who does his weekly shop in a forest instead of waitrose

Vidic is a tough lad but Stam was the man! I recall seeing Zammarano turning to look him in the face and cringing...magic! 8)

Would've been something!

Jaap for me at this point of time, but give Vidic a year or two and he'll be as good...
